Green Horns Are We. . .Class of 53!

Posted

When you think of 1953, what comes to mind? James Dean, Bing Crosby or Marilyn Monroe? Well, for a special group of Wanamingans, graduation from high school would have been at the top of the list!

These folks would have been looking forward to moving out of their family home, and on to a new adventure. Some got married, some got a job, and others continued their education. But no matter what their plans were, they remained friends.

On September 14, 2022, some of these classmates got together at JB's Tavern in Wanamingo to celebrate their 69th class reunion. As you can imagine, there was a lot of storytelling, reminiscing and catching up going on.

The food was tasty, the company was great, and OH! the stories that were told! We were privy to hearing about a lot of activities that went on "back in the day".

The important part was how close these lifelong friends have remained, and how much they care about each other. That is the true essence of small town spirit.

Joanie Ring and Dorothy and Dewey Thompson sent out the invitations and rallied the troops, but all 3 were unable to attend, so a big thank you for getting everyone together goes out to them. Those in attendance were Carol (Carly) Carlson, Dolly Opsahl, Jerry and Valerie Kyllo, Kathryn Wright, Audrey Cordes, Dexter and Janet Henschall, and Sonia and Wesley Larson.

Such a good time was had, that when dinner was over and the conversations were winding down, the classmates decided to do it again next year.

If you are from the class of 1953 and would like to attend the 70th reunion, you can  get yourself on the list.  Join in the reminiscing  and add a few memories of your own!  We expect it will be at JB's again, but definitely check with one of the folks listed above.
