The Dollar General company quashed dreams that the store was building in Wanamingo. The company has since determined they will only locate stores in communities with a population of more than 3,000.
It looked promising last year that the Dollar General would be building on a lot on the north side of Highway 60. A purchase agreement had been signed for the property and all assumed things were progressing.
An issue arose concerning the private access and road costs. It looked like MNDoT would only allow one access to the property and using land for private access would land lock the remaining city property. In previous communities DG has shared infrastructure costs for the construction phase. The city of Wanamingo explored possible options to resolve the problem including covering much of the expense involved but in the end the Dollar General company felt it had become too expensive to pursue the venture.
