Joyce Ann, the daughter of Louis and Margaret (Carr) Behan, was born March 1, 1933, in Masonville, IA. After graduating from Winthrop High School in 1950, she worked in the office at Occo Feeds in Oelwein for two years.
In 1953, Joyce was united in marriage to Charles Schiefelbein, to this union they had two children. Joyce farmed with her husband near Oran for twelve years before they moved to Lakota. Joyce and Charles later divorced.
She worked at Telex Communications in Blue Earth, Minnesota, for over 30 years. Joyce married Sherman O. Benson in 2005, and the couple made their home in Kenyon, Minnesota. Together they enjoyed dancing, traveling, and bike riding. Sherman passed away in 2021.
Joyce was kind-hearted, good-natured, and had a great sense of humor. Her gentle spirit oozed warmth. She possessed a strong work ethic and worked hard to ensure that her family's needs were met. She enjoyed spending time with her family, holding grandchildren and great-grandchildren, socializing with friends, and dancing. Joyce would often listen to old country music, anything Patsy Cline. She loved gardening and flowers. Her favorite flowers were roses and zinnias. Having a sweet tooth was often satisfied by her family bringing her treats. Candy, homemade caramels, ice cream, and an annual coconut birthday cake were her favorite sweet treats. Joyce will truly be missed by all who knew her.
